To implement an information system
in order to spread the awareness of the environmental impact of foundries industries, a communication platform,
as well as practical tools responding to SMEs' needs will be
developed to tackle the environmental issues through the adoption of a proactive approach.
The effective support to management and technical activities is
aimed at promoting research projects for a better a sustainable development.
To create a synergy among European foundries
in order to fill the gaps and to develop new environmental tools
through new bottom-up actions. Accordingly, foundries will adopt proactive and appropriate preventive pollution control measures,
exploit research activities, operational control, eco-audits as improve and strengthening the existing Environmental Management System based on ISO 140001, by setting and reviewing objectives and targets.
To conciliate the economic growth
with the compatibility and the safety of the environment, with
the health of the citizens and of the ecosystem, in an
integrated pollution prevention and control (

) Generally, there is a lack of shared responsibility, information and awareness of foundry environmental issues,
as well as a deficit of networking solutions and collective research projects.
To define a scenario aimed at spotlighting problems in small-medium foundries and at rising questions that need decision making and problem solving activities. By stressing a large spectrum of questions and problems, the project will mobilise a critical mass of information that will be essential to lay the ground for further co-operation and Collective research projects.
To develop a communication platform oriented to meet the demand of small-medium foundries and to the mobilisation of a critical mass of resources information, peer review, expertise and technologies. In particular through an environmental information system, the sharing of practical solutions on environmental issues between foundries would be simple and effective, since the experience and solutions of one foundry could represent a new solution for another one.
| The project will implement the following practical tools:
|
to analyse the environmental priorities;
to identify clean technologies, any barriers holding them back and the appropriate measures to overcome these barriers;
to share experiences;
to transfer best practices;
to define implementation projects;
to apply cost-effective solutions and new regulations,
to consolidate a research network;
to find actions to overcome problems, barriers and obstacles;
to lay the ground for future research projects and activities;
to raise awareness of environmental problems.
to give input on policy development and new regulations, building links with policy-makers (especially EC);
to make European foundry industry more competitive. |
