Home Project Description Implementation Plan

The project is organised in 8 work-packages (WP):

SUPPORT ACTIVITIES

WP 1 Survey on European Foundry industries and International Workshop;
WP 2 Data base designing and implementation;
WP 3 Web platform development and testing;
WP 4 Methodological Guide;
WP 5 International Workshop;
WP 6 Network Enlargement and Implementation;
WP 7 Dissemination and Exploitation Activities.

MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES

WP 8 Partnership Management and Public Relationships.

The project consists in the development and the continuing updating of an information system useful for the small-medium foundries to value the environmental impact of their manufacturing activities and to increase the competitiveness of small-medium foundries. The methodology for achieving the results consists in the collection of all relevant information, questions, problems, technologies and best practices in foundry industries.

METHODOLOGY FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION

WP 1: At the start of the project the partners will be asked to supply information to monitor and assess problems and needs. The first working package is focused on the studying of the environmental technology in the foundry field in Europe , starting from the brief reports on best available technologies to collect a critical mass of knowledge. To ensure that the analysis will be operative, it is useful to have in mind some “promising” or environmental friendly technologies. The results of this survey are expected to define a detailed state of the art and to underline environmental priorities. The results will be presented in an International Workshop. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th working packages concern the creation of an information system made of a Data Base together with a Web Site and a Methodological Guide.

WP 2: The data base creation will facilitate and rationalise the exchange of information, state of the art, new management solution gathering also technical contents. For this reason the data base will focus on environmental solutions rather than environmental problems.

WP 3: The 3rd working package is related to the building of a portal containing a brief history of the project, news, and articles. The web site represents the communication platform, prompting both the project and offering the opportunity to find information, news, to get in touch with the expertise and giving access to the data base.

WP 4: The 4th working package is represented by the editing of a methodological guide, which will assist foundries in the decision making process for adopting the correct solution. The guide will enable them to analyse the nature and extent of an environmental issues, the risk of specific activities and the possibility of monitoring them. It will consist of technical procedures which will analyse industrial activities regarding environmental impact and monitoring, related to global environment management.

WP 5: The 5th working package consolidates the experience and lead to the organisation of an International Workshop to analyse the results of the information gathered and will draw exploitation plan, conclusion creating basis for new bottom-up RTD initiatives as spin off from Eco-in-Foundries.

WP 6: The 6th working package addresses the network-enlargement and the implementation of the project.

WP7: Exploitation and dissemination of the results. Both of the working packages WP6 and WP7 will begin in the second year of activity of the project and will last one year each.

WP8: It concerns the project management, its activities, it describes the organisational scheme, the management board, its composition and its tasks. Moreover it illustrates the quality and knowledge management activities. The working package refers also to the public relationships management, distinguishing between Institutional and technological management of which two members of the management board will be chosen as responsible for the technological communication management and the institutional communication management.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE SME FOUNDRIES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

The SMEs involved will play an important role within the project, they are the main addressees of the project, but they also will be invited to submit proposals, to state problems, to spotlight needs and barriers, and to discuss about main environmental issues in foundry industries. The participation of SMEs will ensure the bottom-up nature of the project; because, basically it will start from the SMEs, and it will be aimed to offer them environmental tools and tailor-made support. The SMEs which are the primarily users of ECO-in-Foundries, will hand on the tools, testing them and expressing feedback.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE ASSOCIATIONS OF FOUNDRIES

The Associations will contribute to all the main steps and activities of the project. This will be insured by the involvement of three Associations in the management board and the involvement of the Swedish Foundry Association in the managing of the technical communication. In particular it is expected that the Associations will give a contribute for the consolidation of the state of the art in foundry industry, giving also input as concerns the planning and the implementation of the communication platform and the Data Base. Moreover they will play a promotional role working for the network enlargement, participating at workshops, meetings and visits.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PARTNERS TO THE TECHNICAL CONTENT CREATION

The technical implementation of the project will be the collective responsibility of the participants. Each participant will also be liable for the use of the Community contribution in proportion to his share of the project.
