The ECO-in-Foundry Project is addressed to SMEs through the development of instruments of communication that will enable them to share knowledge related to environmental issues, to share possible solutions and to single out future research projects. The support actions will define a scenario aimed at spotlighting environmental problems in small-medium foundries and at rising questions that need decision making and problem solving activities in order to ensure cost savings and competitiveness.

The main goal is to facilitate the communication between SMEs, research organisations, associations and technology developers in different countries, to exchange experience and to develop practical tools and new research projects. In particular through an environmental information system, the exchange of practical solutions on environmental issues among foundries will be simple and effective. By bringing together the available experience of European foundries, the ECO IN FOUNDRIES project will develop a higher level of know-how and provide suggestions to policy makers at national and European level. In specific, foundry experiences will consist in an integrated environmental management approach through benchmarking activities and joint tackling of new environmental issues.
